The premise of ''JoTG'' is pretty simple; Jack stuffs his mouth and tells you how it tastes.

Jack on the Go is Jack's secondary restaurant review channel. Created three years after the main channel, while the Cooking with Jack Show is what Jack presents as his magnum opus, Jack on the Go is more what he wants to be doing; indulging in large amounts of already-prepared food while being able to write it off as a business expense. Jack has supplied the channel with steady content for several years, despite its videos never getting nearly the same amount of views as his main has.

Jack also boasts about his regular, "famous" Food Wars (or, as he sometimes likes to write it, Food WARS), in which he pits various restaurants of the same type against each other to find the best one. That was the idea, anyway; eventually Jack started blurting out the word "WAR" during just about any JoTG video. He has also attempted to get "FOOD WARS", "PIZZA WARS" and "TACO WARS" trademarked, however this was rejected as "the applicant failed to respond or filed a late response to an Office action."[1][2][3]

The channel currently has a schedule of one video every Wednesday.

Format

The format of a typical Jack on the Go video has largely remained unchanged over the years.

  • Jack first appears, either in his car or at the destination's parking lot, describing where he is headed to. While he originally brought a crew of people to eat with, this mostly stopped as he moved to Tennessee. In recent years, Tammy has usually been the only one to join Jack on his adventures, largely because he cannot drive on his own anymore.
  • Jack enters the restaurant and starts commenting on frivolous shit within it. He usually films the cashiers and customers at this point, much to their dismay.
  • Jack and/or Tammy read off the menu whilst pondering what they want to eat. This usually goes on for a couple excruciating minutes, as Jack tries to negotiate with Tammy to order as much food as possible.
  • Cut to the camera towards Jack as he comments on the food's appearance or smell. He then unhinges his jaw, giving the money shot and consuming his prey as he makes many uncomfortable sounds.
  • Jack, Tammy and anyone else joining them give their first impressions of the food. Tammy mostly parrots Jack's opinion.
  • Hard cut to Jack, either outside the restaurant or inside his house, giving his final thoughts on his experience. In most cases, he gives the place a rating, the format of which has changed many times over the years. As of recent, he's using an A+-to-F "report card".

Analysis

In recent years following the move to Tennessee, Jack has mostly focused his choice of restaurants on nationwide chains and insignificant strip mall Tex-Mex locations. Criticism towards the latter has clearly frustrated Jack, as he opens "El Ray Azteca, Gallatin, TN" with a wall of text calling out his viewers' supposed hypocrisy, claiming that they previously complained that he wasn't reviewing enough Mexican restaurants before.
